چکیده

Reflections and refractions from wide-angle, densely sampled, multi channel streamer data are transformed automatically to the slowness-depth domain using a downward continuation algorithm. The method may be used to rapidly obtain velocity functions for use in pre-stack depth migration processes. Incorporation of the reflection data has the potential to produce velocity images in complex geological areas such as those associated with basalt layers.

Wave-equation prestack depth migration for sub-basalt P and converted wave imaging

We apply 2-D wave-equation prestack depth migration to a North Sea basalt dataset. High velocity and impedance contrasts across a basalt layer causes low P-wave reflection signal-to-noise ratio under the basalt. We first migrate the P-wave data with a provided depth velocity model, and then replace sub-basalt P-wave velocity with a simple estimate of shear wave velocity and migrate locally-conv...

Angle-domain common-image gathers by wavefield continuation methods

Migration in the angle domain creates seismic images for different reflection angles. We present a method for computing angle-domain common-image gathers from seismic images obtained by depth migration using wavefield continuation. Our method operates on prestack migrated images and produces the output as a function of the reflection angle, not as a function of offset ray parameter as in other ...

Tau tomography with steering filters: 2-D field data example

Common reflection point (CRP) gathers are usually parameterized in terms of offset. For tomography, a more convenient parameterization is in terms of reflection angle. Reflection angle CRP gathers can be constructed using wave equation migration. By performing tomography in vertical travel-time (tau), focusing velocity, rather than some combination of focusing and mapping velocity, can be estim...

Resolution analysis of wide-azimuth angle decomposition for wave-equation migration

Angle-dependent reflectivity constructed from an extended imaging condition, applied to the extrapolated source and receiver wavefields, can be employed to velocity/anisotropy estimation and amplitude versus angle (AVA) analysis. This imaging condition allows one to construct images as a function not only of three-dimensional position but also space lags of the source/receiver wavefield cross-c...

ave-equation angle-domain common-image gathers for converted waves

Wavefield-extrapolation methods can produce angle-domain common-image gathers ADCIGs . To obtain ADCIGs for converted-wave seismic data, information about the image dip and the P-to-S velocity ratio must be included in the computation of angle gathers. These ADCIGs are a function of the half-aperture angle, i.e., the average between the incidence angle and the reflection angle. We have develope...
